Cornelius Thornborrow: By not paying bills on time, utilities, loans or credit cards. Your FICA score can be lowered by having too many "HITS" ( Hard Inquiries or too many credit checks from potential lenders or employers etc...). It can also be lowered if you have a mortgage with a very small loan amount, this I know because I bought my house cheap and it was reflected on my score. ANYTHING you have in collection, such as a doctor bill or anything at all will wreak havoc on your credit rating. While the "Hits" from lenders can be damaging, it is fine for you to keep regular track of your own credit report/score. I check mine once a month and it is considered a soft inquiry...it will not affect your score. Changing jobs frequently will also lower your score. Just try to pay everything on time, even if you have to pay a few partial payments to your utilities, it is better than not paying them at all, this will at least show them that you are making an effort....Show! more
