Lawanna Livsey: Do scientists agree about global warming?Scientists who study the climate are still arguing about how fast the earth is warming and how much it will warm, but they do agree that the earth is warming and that it will keep warming if we donât do anything about it. I hope this will help you do something about it What is causing global warming?Scientists agree ! that the burning of fossil fuels like oil and coal cause greenhouse gases to escape into the air and that these gases are causing most of the warming. Another cause is deforestation (cutting down trees). Trees soak up carbon dioxide, one of the greenhouse gases, from the air. What is the difference between "global warming" and "climate change?""Global warming" refers to the increase of the Earth's average surface temperature, due to a build-up of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. "Climate change" is a broader term that refers to long-term changes in climate, including average temperature and precipitation. What will happen if global warming continues? There are already some changes happening because of global warming. Sea level is rising and some animals are already moving to new homes. Itâs already too late to stop global warming completely. If the warming gets worse, as scientists expect, there may be some kinds of plants and animals that become extinct (disappear complet! ely) because they canât move to new homes. There may be more! storms and floods. Sea level may rise so much that people have to move away from the coasts. Some areas may become too dry for farming. What is being done about global warming?Global warming is a very difficult problem to fix. People are having a hard time agreeing on what to do about it. For example, everyone agrees that wasting energy is a bad thing to do. But some people think that the federal government should make laws about it, while other people think it should be up to each person or business to decide what to do.Many states and businesses in the United States are not waiting until the federal government decides what to do. They have already started working on the problem. What can I do about global warming? You donât have to wait until you are grown to do something about global warming. Scientists agree that the burning of fossil fuels is causing global warming. Since these fuels are burned for energy, and everyone uses energy, everyone can help stop global warming! just by using less energy.Think about the things you do each day that use energy. The lights in your house use electricity. The TV and computer use electricity. The washing machine, dishwasher and dryer all use gas or electricity. Every time you ride in your car, it uses gasoline. There are some very simple things that everyone can do to help stop global warming:· Turn off the lights when you leave a room. Use fluorescent bulbs in your room.· Turn off your computer or the TV when youâre not using it. Unplug chargers when not in use.· Wait until you have a lot of clothes to wash before using the washing machine. Donât use the machine for one item just because itâs your favorite shirt.· Take shorter showers. Heating water uses energy.· Close the blinds on a hot day if the sun is shining in. Dress lightly instead of turning up the air conditioning. Or use a fan.· Dress warmly when itâs cold, instead of turning up the heat.· Offer to help your parents keep the a! ir filters on your AC and furnace clean.· Walk short distances instead! of asking for a ride in a car.· Plant a tree....Show more

Willie Tun: Yes it's real, but the earth has been warming and cooling for thousands of years. Long before the industrial age. People who blame mankind are either ignorant or have an agenda. C02 is currently at a globally averaged concentration of approximately 385 parts per million by volume in the Earth's atmosphere, and mankind produces only five percent of the 335. This means that human-created C02 accounts for only 16.75 parts per million. That's 16.75 tons of C! 02 out of every 1,000,000 tons of other atmosphere. Francis Stickle: OK, you have probably heard a lot of people say that Global Warming is just a natural cycle, and that there's nothing we can do to stop it from occurring. While there is some truth to that (Global Warming is a natural cycle, and it's going to occur no matter what) there's something else out there that's messing up this natural cycle, and is making it like nothing the world has ever seen before. Tha! t new factor is human activities. Human activities directly affect the greenhouse effect (which directly affects Global Warming), you see greenhouse gases a natural in the atmosphere to keep us from freezing over, but since the beginning of the industrial age, we (humans) have added excess greenhouse gases into the atmosphere that aren't suppose to be there (and the more we add the harder it is for the earth to remove them). These excess gases trap more heat and release less causing the whole earth to heat up (a.k.a. Global Warming) this is NOT good because the slightest change in the earth's climate systems can affect the entire thing. Causing new climate patterns to emerge that we may not be able to adapt to (and about 1/3 to 2/3 of the worlds species as well). But there is still hope. We currently have all of the technology, money, man power, and resources we need to EFFECTIVLEY slow Global Warming back down to its modest warming over thousands of years. In about 30 years (if humans havenât decide to change our ways, go green, and slow down the effects of Global Warming to its natural rate) and the effects of Global Warming have set in so far that there's nothing we can do or any one after us can do to reverse what WE have done, and my children/grandchildren and you children/grandchildren have to live with the horrible effects What are you going to say? Ardell Luy: A careful look at global warming, as a topic, shows that there is a great deal of disagreement about the facts and substance of climate chang! e. Those who blame man for climate change often disagree about what fac! ts lead them to that conclusion. Those who hold man totally innocent of it often ignore established facts. Experience and research leads us to believe that warming is, in fact, occurring; however, there is little to no objective evidence that man is the cause, nor that the effects will be catastrophic. The idea of earth âwearing outâ is an apt analogy. This entire world has been continually decaying since the fall.Global warming âfactsâ are notoriously hard to come by. One of the few facts universally agreed upon is that the current average temperature of Earth is indeed rising at this time. According to most estimates, this increase in temperature amounts to about 0.4-0.8 °C (0.72-1.44 °F) over the last 100 years. Data regarding times before that is not only highly theoretical but very difficult to obtain with any accuracy. The very methods used to obtain historical temperature records are controversial, even among the most ardent supporters of the theory of huma! n-caused climate change. The facts leading one to believe that humans are not responsible for the current change in temperature are as follows:⢠Global temperature changes from past millennia, according to available data, were often severe and rapid, long before man supposedly had any impact at all. That is, the current climate change is not as unusual as some alarmists would like to believe.⢠Recent recorded history mentions times of noticeable global warming and cooling, long before man had any ability to produce industrial emissions.⢠Water vapor, not CO2, is the most influential greenhouse gas. It is difficult to determine what effect, if any, mankind has on worldwide water vapor levels.⢠Given the small percentage of human-produced CO2, as compared to other greenhouse gases, human impact on global temperature may be as little as 1%.⢠Global temperatures are known to be influenced by other, non-human-controlled factors, such as sunspot activity, orbital moveme! nt, volcanic activity, solar system effects, and so forth. CO2 emission! is not the only plausible explanation for global warming.⢠Ice Age temperature studies, although rough, frequently show temperatures changing before CO2 levels, not after. This calls into question the relationship between warming and carbon dioxide; in some cases, the data could easily be interpreted to indicate that warming caused an increase in carbon dioxide, rather than the reverse!⢠Computer simulations used to âpredictâ or âdemonstrateâ global warming require the assumption of human causation, and even then are not typically repeatable or reliable. Current computer weather simulations are neither predictive nor repeatable.⢠Most of the global temperature increase of the last 100 years occurred before most of the man-made CO2 was produced.⢠In the 1970s, global temperatures had actually been dropping since 1945, and a âglobal coolingâ concern became prominent, despite what is now dismissed as a lack of scientific support.⢠The âconsensusâ cla! imed by most global warming theorists is not scientific proof; rather, it is a statement of majority opinion. Scientific majorities have been wrongly influenced by politics and other factors in the past. Such agreement is not to be taken lightly, but it is not the same thing as hard proof.⢠This âconsensus,â as with many other scientific theories, can be partially explained by growing hostility to those with differing viewpoints, making it less likely that a person without preconceived notions would take on the subject for research. The financial and political ramifications of the global warming debate are too serious to be ignored, though they should not be central to any discussion.⢠The data being used to support anthropogenic (man-caused) global warming is typically based on small data sets, single samples, or measurements taken in completely different regions. This creates an uncertainty in the results that rarely gets the attention that alarmist conclusions do! .While the above list is not exhaustive, it does include several of the! major points that raise doubts about mankindâs actual effect on global temperatures. While no one can deny that warming is occurring, âoverwhelming evidenceâ of any objective type does not exist to support the idea that global warming is significantly influenced by human actions. There is plenty of vague, short-sighted, and misunderstood data that can be seen as proving âanthropogenicâ global-warming theory. All too often, data used to blame humans for global warming is far less reliable than data used for other areas of study. It is a valid point of contention that the data used in these studies is frequently flawed, easily misinterpreted, and subject to preconception. In regards to issues such as this, skepticism is not the same as disbelief. There are fragments of evidence to support both sides, and logical reasons to choose one interpretation over another. The question of anthropogenic global warming should not divide Christian believers from each other (Luke ! 11:17). Environmental issues are important, but they are not the most important questions facing mankind. Christians ought to treat our world with respect and good stewardship, but we should not allow politically driven hysteria to dominate our view of the environment. Our relationship with God is not dependent on our belief in human-caused global warming. For further research on global warming, we recommend the following articles:http://www.icr.org/article/3233/http://www.junkscience.com/Greenhouse/ http://www.clearlight.com/~mhieb/WVFossils/ice_age...http://www.xtronics.com/reference/globalwarming.ht...http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2002/5/14...http://www.whrc.org/carbon/images/GlobalCarbonCycl...http://www.grida.no/climate/ipcc_tar/wg1/fig3-1.ht...Read more: http://www.gotquestions.org/global-warming.html#ix......Show more

Lawanna Livsey: The earth is co! ntinually going through cycles of climate change. Can you imagine the panic that would have happened if modern man had existed 20,000 years ago and witnessed the melting of the great glaciers that happened at the end of the last ice age. Global warming is a fact but it is possible that what is happening now is a natural continuation of the climate changes that ended the last ice age. Man wasn't around in large enough numbers to have caused the melting of the great glaciers that covered much of the northern hemisphere. Yet it happened and it happened many times before man even walked this planet. Our use of fossil fuels may be accelerating the changes in climate but the process began before mankind had an influence and it will continue regardless of our efforts. Mankind must prepare for the future or like all species on this planet adapt or become extinct....Show more
Clemente Schoeck: You already have, even after seeing the data. Have you ever wondered why it is that! the people you think aren't lying to you are the ones telling you what you want to hear?edit: You're getting older. Aging sucks. One of the things that happens when you age is you notice the cold more (mainly since you aren't as active). You're not wearing a parka because it is colder *on average.* You're wearing a parka because you notice the coldest days more now. If you were really being objective about this, you would dig out weather records going back to when you were 5 and plot the average winter temperatures. If you had lived at roughly the same latitude and longitude, you would undoubtedly notice it was colder when you were 5 than now. But even seeing that data, assembled and plotted by yourself, you would reject it because you *cannot* accept that the world is warming up. See, you're not starting from an objective reference frame, so no amount of evidence will ever be enough for you. Happily for you, nothing of any consequence will ever be done about cli! mate change, and we'll all just have to adapt as best we can. Que sera! sera.
Myron Leftwich: I think your should read more peer-reviewed scientific journals and fewer conspiracy theory blogs before you conclude that people who are significantly smarter than you are in fact, lying. I could hand you hard evidence that global warming is real, that it is a man-made occurrence, and that it is only getting worse, but I sense the problem here with you is something different altogether. You think there is a conspiracy, and therefore, any contradictory evidence is just a part of that conspiracy. Now, I need to ask you this: Why do you think there is a conspiracy? Is it really possible that tens of thousands of scientists are engaging in mass deception? For what point or purpose? And furthermore, how would this mass conspiracy have been conducted? Do you realize that it's taken more than a century to reach the current scientific consensus regarding climate change? Who could orchestrate a plot this elaborate for this long in what is really and tru! ly a rather indirect way to get to power? And if you say "The Illuminati" I'm going to smack you through the internet. If you think this is fueled by the scientific community's desire to get more research money, and that the motive here is purely greed, then you clearly don't know any scientists. It's hardly a cushy job being a researcher in any scientific field. I know people who have stayed up entire nights identifying organisms on a boat in god-knows-where, fleshing out the details on obscure species that most people have never even heard of or that fewer even care about. Scientists are among some of the most selfless people on earth. They dedicate their lives to expanding mankind's collective knowledge about the world around us. To see you, some third-rate internet guttersnipe, try to belittle the scientific community just because you walked outside today and had to wear a jacket because it was a little chilly, is disgusting.

Elsie Resner: They is evidence to support both sides of the global warming argument. The difficult part is that people usually believe the most popular opinion i.e., Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth. The problem with that is that many important facts are left out and ignored altogether. For instance, Al Gore's documentary failed to even mention the effect of volcanic activity and the environment. Volcanic eruptions contribute more to global warming than any other earthly variable, including us. The other problem with the global warming argument is how people like Al Gore use emotional! ploys (such as dieing animals and shrinking ecosystems)to get people to pay attention. This is not fair to anyone. Yes, it may well be true that animals die and their habitats shrink but, is this contributed by global warming alone? What about urban sprawl, cattle farming in the rainforests, and an ever increasing human population? Global warming is a difficult issue to really get to the bottom of because of all of the garbage like this that surrounds it. I hope this helps a little. Good luck....Show more

Terrell Lawman: Basically Goebbels was right in regards to the proper usage of the unfree press. What first needs to be done is to free the press from the hands of the oppressor.I think the so obviously wrong Mann graph was to me the key that the whole thing was a setup for a political power garb. They need to do some real studying because the AGW concept comes fr! om a very poor understanding of how the world and its climate functions! . Even during the little ice age there were 3 warm spikes timed 200 years apart at 1400, 1600 and 1800AD. Wait just a minute 200 years apart, then the 2000 warming was right on schedule as part of the normal cycle, not out of sequence or unusual at all and it is also normal to dip into cooling after the spike. So we had cool minimums at 1300, 1500, 1700 and 1850 so we probably will soon be heading into a cool period. So here are some educational materials on climate and geology from major instructors showing how these misunderstandings came to be.http://www.weatherquestions.com/Roy-Spencer-on-glo...http://www.indiana.edu/~geol105/ http://www.geocraft.com/WVFossils/Articles1.htmlhttp://www.friendsofscience.org/assets/documents/T...

Jesusita Dykhoff: I believe in climate change. I believe that global warming and global cooling belong to the category of climate change. I believe that climate change is caused mainly by human intervention and activity. It is not natural. And most every scientist that is not getting grants from politicians or companies, and are not being blackmailed to s! peak against it, approve it. They can be defined by it, as they are all abnormal weather occurrences. I also believe, that because f the skeptics out there who strongly disagree against global warming (which I believe is false too) that are not scientists, or have never taken a course in Environmental Science, don't have a right to speak for themselves. and those who don't believe in it, but don't speak up, should educate themselves....Show more
