Raleigh Lufkin: Well, legally and officially, here in Canada, we are supposed to use the metric system.But I am 52. I tend to use the Imperial system, where it counts:In cooking, a cup is more natural, and easier to use, and imagine thatn 500 mililiters, or grams or whatever. I know what a foot is. I know what a yard is. I can imagine a mile. I know what a 2x4 is, and I know that even if measured metric, they are still 8ft long, because a gazillion houses have wood in them that length...And I do know that when gasoline was converted to metric, prices went up by 2! 0%, and since then, we have no idea how much gas we are buying. We just pay, pay, pay! And the Metric system is innacurate. It was designed on assumed 17th century measured values. Had they been more accurate, a meter, believe it or not, would be exactly 3 ft long. (Instead of some 39 inches or so!) Coincidence? I think not. Evolution designed us to fit a specific planet. Duh! The only advantage of metric is the dividing by 10 bit. Unless you live in a science lab...And most people I know, cannot tell a milli, from a centi... any more than they can tell a mega from a deca. (Although deca used to be a great recording company!)If you were born in it, and are forced to use it each day... Toshiko Reimers: well, i live in australia, and in the UK and Australia the Metric System is standard, thats what we learn and use EVERY DAY (kilometers, meters, centimeters, millimeters, kilograms, grams...etc.) The metric system is FAR SUPERIOR to the imperial system. The im! perial system does NOT fit and calculate well (12 inches to a foot), whereas we do (metric) 10 millimeters to 1 cm, 100cm to 1 meter, 1000 meters to 1 kilometer, 1000 grams to 1 kilogram... Metric fits far easier and is MUCH easier to calculate with.METRIC ALL THE WAY!...Show more
